The women’s bantamweight division was on full display tonight for the TUF Season 17 Finale, featuring a contender bout between Cat Zingano and Miesha Tate. Coming into this fight, people assumed Tate would have the slight advantage in the wrestling department.
She did in the first and second round, controlling Zingano on the ground and making her work. However, in the third round, Zingano would rattle off some devastating knees against the cage, forcing Tate to the canvas. The ref was forced to step in, and Zingano is now going to coach against Ronda Rousey on The Ultimate Fighter.
It was a brilliant display off striking for Zingano, proving she packs a lot of power and strength behind her strikes. TUF 18 will feature both men and women on the show, and it will be interesting to see how Zingano and Rousey fair in terms of the coaching aspect. Both don’t have too much experience in MMA, so it will be interesting to see if the fighters on the show are receptive to their coaching methods.
Now 8-0 in her fighting career, Zingano has proved she can hang with the best of them, as Tate has been considered the second best bantamweight for some time now in women’s mma. However, squaring off against Rousey will be an entirely new experience for her. Rousey is an Olympic Judo specialist, and none of her opponents have been able to make it out of the first round against her.
So how will Zingano fair against the dominate force that is Rousey? Stay tuned!
