UFC
Joe Nicholson-USA TODAY Sports

The UFC returns to FOX this weekend for UFC on FOX 7, as lightweight champion Benson Henderson will defend his belt against former Strikeforce champion Gilbert Melendez. Saturday night, MMA fans are in for a great night of fights.

UFC on FOX 7 has recently been called UFC versus Strikeforce, as most of the bouts scheduled to fight feature fighters who are former fighters in Strikeforce. The main card features five former Strikeforce, including the title fight featuring Melendez.

Predicting the way UFC fights will end up is difficult with the ability of the current fighters and their way of finishing competitors who are supposed to have the upper hand. Additionally, fighters like Henderson have been able to repeat and hold onto their belt for many consecutive title fights.

A number of enjoyable fights are schedule to go down on Saturday night, culminating in Henderson vs Melendez. Frank Mir will square off against Daniel Cormier, Matt Brown battles Jordan Mein, Nate Diaz faces Josh Thomson and in a undercard fight, Tim Means and Jorge Masvidal will square off in what could be the fight of the night.

What are the bold predictions at UFC on FOX 7? Who is going to win fight of the night? Who will make that one huge punch to earn knockout of the night? Who will make someone tapout with a nice submission of the night?

Making predictions aren’t easy, but here are a couple bold predictions that could happen come Saturday night.

Nate Diaz Wins Submission of the Night

Diaz

Nate Diaz simply did not seem to show up to his title fight against Ben Henderson, but if there is a fighter you can count on for a great tapout win, Diaz is your guy. Although, the Metal Mulisha fighter has used his standup game more lately, he is always good for a great submission to win the fight.

It’s a bold prediction, since his opponent Josh Thomson has never been submitted in his professional career. Diaz will give Thomson his first ever loss via the submission.

Jordan Mein wins Knockout of the Night

The former Strikeforce prospect, Jordan Mein took the UFC world by surprise finishing Dan Miller in his octagon debut. Miller had never been finished in his career and had taken on some of the best middleweights in the world, Mein made him look awful.

Mein will pound on Matt Brown with a first round knockout and take home a big bonus in doing so.

Francis Carmont vs Lorenz Larkin wins Fight of the Night

Larkin
Scott Olmos-USA TODAY Sports

The undefeated Lorenz Larkin versus the streaking Francis Carmont is going to be one heck of a fight. Larkin is a former Strikeforce fight and is 13-0-0 in his professional career, while Carmont is 4-0-0 in the UFC and hasn’t lost since April 2008.

Larkin and Carmont are fighting extremely well and will put on a show for the fans at the HP Pavilion. Expect this fight to last all three rounds and head to the judges or at least late in the final round.

Best Fight of the Night Won’t Be on Main Card

Means
Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

It is a bold prediction, with all the great bouts in the month of April, Tim Means versus Jorge Masvidal might not only be the best fight to watch on the UFC on FOX 7 card, but in the entire month of April.

The two strikers will collide for a massive fight with nothing to lose, they will be swinging hard at each other and multiple times the fight will look to be over when they return punching.

Ben Henderson will have his hands full against former Strikeforce champion Gilbert Melendez, but will finish the fighter before the fight goes five rounds.

Henderson will extend his title defense for at least one more fight, before possibly losing it to one of the other great lightweight fighters the UFC has to offer.
