UFC has officially released featherweight Leonard Garcia from their roster. For Garcia fans, this is sad news as he was one of the most exciting fighters in the featherweight division. Win or lose, he always brought the action to his opponents, and hopefully he can get some wins under his belt and then come back to the UFC. Garcia shared this news via his Twitter:
Got let go by
@ufc thanks for everything! Ill be back better then ever!
One of Garcia’s shining moments under the UFC banner was when he challenged Roger Huerta, in what was one of the most exciting fights of 2007. Garcia would end up losing the bout, but his heart and determination to win was never in question. From there, he would fight under the WEC promotion, beating the likes of Jens Pulver and Chan Sung Jung.
Garcia would then have mixed results under the UFC promotion, going 1-6 for the rest of his UFC tenure. Even though he lost a lot of fights, his exciting style allowed him to be a fan favorite. His power punching style made him fun to watch, but it ultimately allowed him to get picked apart by more technical strikers.
If he wants to come back and thrive in the UFC, he will need to work on his technique as well his take down defense. This is certainly possible as he trains at Team Jackson which is one of the best training camps in the world right now.
