UFC on FX 8 Results: Vitor Belfort KO’s Luke Rockhold
UFC on FX 8 took place tonight, featuring an important middleweight bout between Vitor Belfort and Luke Rockhold. Up for stakes was contender status in the division. Coming into this fight, everyone knew Belfort had the power and speed.
What they didn’t know was that Belfort has a great arsenal of kicks.
In the first round, Belfort looked to land a spinning back wheel kick, but it missed the first time. However, he tried it the second time, and landed square on the button. Rockhold fell to the canvas, and Belfort stormed like he always does. The ref was forced to step in and Belfort has now reasserted himself in title contention.
For Belfort, he will more than likely face the winner of the Chris Weidman vs. Anderson Silva bout, which takes place later this year in July. It was a sterling performance from the Brazilian phenom, and he just keeps getting better with every fight. Many have talked about his use of TRT, but this win was certainly a display of technique and not performance-enhancing drugs.
For Rockhold, he will have to go back to the drawing board. He is a viable contender in the division as he already holds a win over Jacare Souza. The kick came out of nowhere, and almost every fighter would go down after that spinning heel kick.
This capped off the night in Brazil in an emphatic fashion, and Belfort looks to still have a bright future in the UFC.
