A UFC welterweight bout with many implications takes place this weekend between Erick Silva and Jason High. Both are looking to build some momentum in hopes of moving up the welterweight ladder, where Georges St. Pierre currently is sitting at the top.

Coming into this pivotal welterweight match, Silva is looking to make a statement. His latest outing was thrilling against Jon Fitch, but Fitch proved to be too much for Silva in the latter rounds. Before this deflating loss, Silva was on an impressive winning streak, so he will be looking to get back to his winning ways when he faces High.

If there is any knock on Silva, it’s his takedown defense against elite wrestlers, and it will be interesting to see what type of adjustments he has made since his loss to Fitch.

High comes into this fight with an impressive 16-3 record. He has quality wins over Nate Moore, Andre Galvao, and Jordan Mein. This will be his first fight under the UFC banner, and it will be interesting to see how well he fares against elite competition.

Silva has power in his hands and can end the fight within seconds. He has a well-versed striking game, and is competent when the fight hits the mat. For High, he is a well-rounded fighter that can end the fight standing and on the ground.

It will come down to who wants it the most, and also whose cardio can hold up throughout the fight.

Dana White Doesn’t Think Conor McGregor Can Beat Rafael dos Anjos

Things are getting interesting ahead of UFC 196. The headlining fight at that March 5 pay-per-view event will see UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor move up to lightweight to face the champion of that division Rafael dos Anjos. If McGregor succeeds he will become the first UFC fighter to hold belts in two different divisions simultaneously. The oddsmakers have McGregor as the favorite ahead of the fight. UFC president Dana White doesn’t necessarily hold the same opinion.

Dr. AnnMaria De Mars is the first woman ever to win a gold medal at the World Judo Championship doing so in 1984. She is also the mother of former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey. Further she may be the most vocal critic of Rousey’s coach Edmond Tarverdyan. Appearing on Submission Radio De Mars once again spoke out on Tarverdyan commenting on Rousey’s loss to Holly Holm at UFC 193. “I predicted it in advance Ronda trained with an idiot and a fraud” said De Mars.
