UFC on Fox Sports 1 featured an exciting featherweight bout tonight between Conor McGregor and Max Holloway. Coming into this fight, McGregor had a ton of pressure on him, being one of the best fighters from Ireland. Tonight, McGregor proved that the hype was warranted, as he was able to get a unanimous decision win. McGregor started the fight off by landing some unorthodox kicks.
He would then pressure Holloway up against the cage. Holloway would land several good leg kicks in the first, but it was clear McGregor was simply out-landing him in the first. McGregor had his hands down time and time again, hoping to get Holloway to rush in, but Holloway remained composed. An amazing thing about this bout was McGregor’s recognition of his footwork and distance, which had Holloway guessing throughout the fight.
From switch kicks to spinning body kicks, McGregor threw it all in this fight, proving he is one of the best stand up fighters in the featherweight division right now. It seemed like his cardio was up to par, which he will need going forward in his career. McGregor would even show off his ground skills in this fight, catching Holloway’s kick and following him to the ground on several occasions.
McGregor wasn’t able to get the finish in this bout, which is a testament to the heart and skill of Holloway, but he gets a much needed decision win. McGregor is now 2-0 in the UFC, and he is building a name for himself in this division. He’s not ready for a title shot against Jose Aldo just yet, but he certainly has a bright future if he can keep evolving as a fighter.
