UFC on Fox Sports 1: Michael Johnson Saves His UFC Job With Dominant Striking Performance Over Joe Lauzon
UFC on Fox Sports 1 featured an exciting lightweight bout between dynamic fighters Joe Lauzon and Michael Johnson. Both fighters are well known for their exciting stand up skills, making this must-see fight for the Boston crowd. In the end, Johnson was too fast and the better boxer, winning a unanimous decision.
The bout started off with Johnson landing some good combinations. Lauzon tried to clinch, but Johnson shucked him off. Johnson then clipped Lauzon with a huge left, sending his to the canvas. This would be a repeated theme in the first round, which Johnson dominated.
Johnson seemed to slow down in the second, and Lauzon was able to have more success with his strikes. It was not enough, however, as Johnson once again out-struck Lauzon in the final frame to take the victory. This fight was a good lightweight bout, and Johnson just seemed to be the superior athlete and was faster with his strikes. This was a much-needed win for him, as he was on a two-fight losing streak.
This is Johnson’s biggest win to date, and it couldn’t have come at a better time. Lauzon showed tremendous heart and was a game opponent for Johnson, but Johnson simply started off too strong for Lauzon, and did not allow him to truly recover from there.
If Johnson can keep this momentum going, he has a great shot at throwing his name back in the hat to challenge for the lightweight title, which is currently held by Ben Henderson.
Tonight, Johnson proved to be the superior striker, which was clearly evident in the third round.
