It appears that UFC lightweight Donald Cerrone, has seen better days. It was reported by Cage Potato that Cerrone is facing assault charges, which was issued by the Grand County Colorado Sheriff’s Department.
This is devastating news for Cerrone, who was in line to challenge Rafael Dos Anjos on August 28 for the the UFC Fight Night 27 card. It remains to be seen whether or not Cerrone gets pulled from the card, but this certainly hinders his chances at fighting.
Long considered one of the most exciting fighters in the lightweight division due to his no-nonsense personality and excellent kickboxing skills, Cerrone is coming off a sterling performance over K.J. Noons, where he was able to pick apart Noons on the feet and then use his superior grappling to pick up the win. It was a much-needed win for Cerrone, who was coming off a demoralizing loss to Anthony Pettis that would have put him in line to challenge Benson Henderson for the title.
Now, Cerrone will have to deal with these legal matters, which will more than likely detract his focus from his upcoming fight, if it’s even still on in the first place. Cerrone has always had a wild side outside of fighting, often looking for adrenaline-pumping actives such a wakeboarding (which he has considered going pro in) to fuel his interest.
Hopefully, Cerrone can clear his name and get back to training, as his bout with Dos Anjos has excitement written all over it.
