One of the most anticipated UFC welterweight bouts on tap is between Carlos Condit vs. Martin Kampmann. This will be a rematch, where Kampmann was able to edge out a split-decision in their first outing. Rematches in the UFC have always been fun to watch, and they normally never end up like the first bout: see Cain Velasquez vs. Junior Dos Santos.
Both fighters have improved tremendously since their first meeting with each other, and the winner of this bout gets their fighting career back on the track, where the loser takes a serious hit in the rankings. Condit is coming off a loss to Johny Hendricks, who controlled him on the ground for much of the round. However, he showed some dynamic strikes at times, proving Condit is always dangerous at any point.
Kampmann is also dangerous at all times inside the cage. He is known for taking a lot of punishment, and then coming back to defeat his opponents in brutal fashion. This was clear in his bouts with Drew McFedries, Thiago Alves and Jake Ellenberger. In each of those fights, Kampmann was getting beat early, but he was able to withstand damage and finish each opponent off late in the fight.
If Kampmann can defeat Condit once again, he shoots up the welterweight rankings and may even have the chance to fight for the title, whether it’s against Hendricks or Georges St. Pierre. Likewise for Condit, who will look to showcase his improved takedown defense.
Both of these welterweights are known for their exciting stand up and ground games, so it should be a war from start to finish.
