Mark J. Rebilas-USA Today Sports

UFC Fight Night 27 kicks off tomorrow night, which features a great card from top to bottom. Headlining the card is a welterweight rematch between Carlos Condit and Martin Kampmann. Both of these fighters have grown tremendously since their first meeting, making this an exciting bout to watch. Let’s now take a look at the rest of the card and make some predictions.

Brad Tavares vs. Robert McDaniel: This middleweight bout will be a must-win for both fighters if they want to keep their jobs in the UFC. Coming into this bout, both fighters have competent striking skills, so it should be an interesting striking war. Tavares arguably has the better power, and this will benefit him greatly in this bout. He will time his shots and clip McDaniel early to get a stoppage.
Final Prediction: Brad Tavares wins via KO in the first round.

Takeya Mizugaki vs. Erik Perez: Mizugaki has a lot of experience under his belt coming into this bout, but he is simply outmatched against Perez. Perez will defend the take downs from Mizugaki, and will put his combinations together, hurting Mizugaki later in the fight.
Final Prediction: Erik Perez wins via TKO in the second round.

Court McGee vs. Robert Whittaker: Whittaker has a lot of power in his hand, but McGee has always shown to have heart and a great chin. McGee will weather the early storm of Whittaker, where he will then put his boxing skills on display. Don’t be surprised to see McGee take this fight to the ground as well, as he has underrated Jiu Jitsu skills.
Final Prediction: Court McGee wins via unanimous decision.

Kevin Gastelum vs. Brian Melancon: Gastelum is riding high off his victory over Uriah Hall to win TUF show, and he will use this momentum to put on an excellent performance against Melancon. Melancon has great boxing skills, but Gastelum gets the win here using his wrestling, which will come in handy every round in this bout.
Final Prediction: Kevin Gastelum wins via unanimous decision.

Donald Cerrone vs. Rafael dos Anjos: This lightweight bout is hard to pick, as both are very well-rounded and equally dangerous. Anjos holds the power edge, but Cerrone has the better kicks and has a very good Jiu Jitsu game. Cerrone has always had the skills to beat the best, but his mental game has never been exceptional. However, he is now working with a sports psychologist, and will be able to use his leg kicks and diverse elbows and punches to edge out Anjos.
Final Prediction: Donald Cerrone wins via unanimous decision.

Carlos Condit vs. Martin Kampmann: This welterweight bout is a rematch, and both fighters have improved greatly since their last meeting. In the first fight, both were able to show glimpses of greatness, but ultimately Kampmann walked away with the victory. However, Condit has shown incredible power as of late, and Kampmann doesn’t have the best chin. Condit will use excellent footwork and kicks to setup a huge KO punch early in this fight.
Final Prediction: Carlos Kampmann wins via KO in the first round.

Dana White Doesn’t Think Conor McGregor Can Beat Rafael dos Anjos

Things are getting interesting ahead of UFC 196. The headlining fight at that March 5 pay-per-view event will see UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor move up to lightweight to face the champion of that division Rafael dos Anjos. If McGregor succeeds he will become the first UFC fighter to hold belts in two different divisions simultaneously. The oddsmakers have McGregor as the favorite ahead of the fight. UFC president Dana White doesn’t necessarily hold the same opinion.
