It appears UFC 167 just got another great fight between Rashad Evans and Chael Sonnen. This bout was announced on the UFC Fight Night 28 Pre-Fight show. This bout will be the co-main event, where Georges St. Pierre will defend his welterweight title against Johny Hendricks in the main event.
Both Evans and Sonnen work together on the pre-fight and post-fight shows for the UFC, and they have always maintained a good working relationship. It seems like both don’t mind squaring off in hopes of getting another impressive win under their belts.
Coming into this co-main event, Sonnen is riding high off a submission win, guillotine, to Shogun Rua. It was a much-need win, as Sonnen as on a two fight losing streak. If he can get a win over Evans, it sets him up for bigger things in both the middleweight and light heavyweight divisions.
Evans has always been respectful to his opponents, and this is true going up against Sonnen. When Sonnen challenged Evans on Twitter, Evans seemed very cordial. On the Alchemist Radio station, Evans had the following to say:
“Chael and I decided that this was a fight that we wanted to happen and it’s a fight that I’m excited for. We’re still talking about it, but it’s definitely something the UFC wants.”
The aforementioned bout has indeed been booked, and both fighters will be looking to prove who’s wrestling is superior. Both Sonnen and Evans have been able to dominate their foes over the years thanks to their wrestling, so it should make for an interestingly stylistic match up.
