UFC Fight Night 28 featured an important light heavyweight bout between Ryan Bader and Glover Teixeira. Coming into this bout, both fighters were fighting for a chance at the belt, which is currently held by Jon Jones, who is set to take on Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 165.
Early in the round, Bader was very aggressive, locking up a guillotine early on. Glover defended and took Bader down on several occasions in the first. Bader then pressed Glover up against the cage, trying to land heavy rights. Glover remained composed, and landed a beautiful right counter, sending Bader to the canvas. Bader was hurt, and Glover finished with strikes while on the top.
It was an impressive performance from Teixeira, who showed his experience in this fight. Bader had his chances for victory, but his striking technique wasn’t quite there, and Teixeira made him pay dearly. Glover is now 5-0 in the UFC, and he is on an impressive 20-fight winning streak. The veteran is now in line to challenge for the title, whether it’s against Jones or Gustafsson.
Tonight’s performance just shows the kind of power that Glover has in his hands, and Bader found out the hard way that it only takes one punch from this man to end the fight. For Bader, he will have to go back to the drawing board and shore up his striking defense. For Teixeira, he is the next man to challenge for the title, and it was a sterling performance.
