It appears Nate Diaz and Gray Maynard will square off for the third time, which takes place on TUF 18 season finale. This news comes from the UFC’s Twitter page:

Breaking – the November 30 #TUF18 finale will feature the rubber match between @NateDiaz209 and @GrayMaynard

Both of these lightweights are coming off TKO losses, so they will need a win to get their fighting careers back on the right track. This trilogy fight is a must-win bout for both fighters. Diaz’s last outing ended with a TKO loss against Josh Thomson, a bout that he was winning until he was dropped with a brutal head kick.

He will need to make some adjustments in standup technique if he wants to get back to his winning ways. Diaz was able to submit Maynard on The Ultimate Fighter season 5 but lost a split decision to him back in 2010. Now he will look to get his revenge, and he will need to look sharp, especially if he ever wants to compete for a UFC title again.

Maynard didn’t look great in his last UFC outing, which was against T.J. Grant. Grant was able to stop Maynard with strikes in the very first round, eliminating Maynard’s title shot aspirations. Now, he looks to rebuild his career, and a win over Diaz certainly does just that. Maynard has always been one of the best wrestlers in this division, and he may want to get back to his wrestling roots when squaring off against Diaz, who is competent in the striking department.

Both fighters are known for their exciting, relentless style, so it should be a fun scrap that means a lot for both fighters.
