UFC 165 is almost underway, which showcases a light heavyweight title fight between Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson. Both of these fighters have been very cordial with each other leading up to their bout. Just weeks out from the fight, Gustafsson shared his true thoughts about Jones’ antics and behavior with an interview with Kimura.se:
“He’s a little brat in an adult’s body. Jones is a very immature boy in a grown man’s body. It is not always that a person is himself in front of the cameras, and that’s Jones. If you’re with him for a week, as I did at UFC World Press Tour … you see the way he behaves. He is a real bully.”
Gustafsson isn’t the first person to question Jones’s behavior and character. Rashad Evans, who used to train with Jones on a daily basis, shed some light onto this issue, saying that Jon is a fake person who is simply putting on an act in front of the cameras.
Whether or not Jones’s persona in front of the cameras is genuine remains to be seen, but he certainly has the skills to back up everything he says inside the cage. His unbeaten record, save for his DQ loss to Matt Hamill, is a testament to the type of skills Jones has. Gustafsson is not one to shy away from confrontation, and he truly believes he has what it takes to dethrone Jones, who has looked so dominant ever since coming over to the UFC.
Gustafsson believes his size, striking and reach will be the difference in the fight, so his confidence is certainly in the right place. It will be fun to see this epic light heavyweight championship unfold, and the winner will prove that they are the best light heavyweight in the world.
