UFN 33: Shogun Rua vs. James Te Huna Booked
A light heavyweight bout has been booked for the UFC 33 card between Shogun Rua and James Te Huna. Both of these fighters are coming off losses, so they will need an impressive showing to get their career back on the right track. The loser takes a serious hit in the rankings, and may even have to worry about their job security if they fail to deliver.
Rua comes into this bout off a submission loss to Chael Sonnen. It was a deflating loss for Shogun, who was looking to build some momentum in hopes of making a run for the title, which is currently being held by Jon Jones. Rua has always been an exciting fighter to watch, but he hasn’t been very consistent ever since competing inside the UFC.
He has now lost four out of his last six fights, and another loss may spell the end for him as a fighter.
Te Huna is also coming off a deflating loss, which was a submission loss to Glover Teixeira. Before this bout, Huna was able to string together four straight wins over some good fighters. Huna is a powerful puncher, but has shown some deficiencies in his ground game, particular his submission defense. He will need to shore up these deficiencies going against Rua, who has a great arsenal of submissions in his bag.
Both of these fighters are looking to prove that they have what it takes to compete in the light heavyweight division, and they will need to revamp their straining and strategy if they want to come out the victor.
