This is huge news for both Lentz and Mendes, as they will get the chance to battle it out for featherweight supremacy. Both have looked great in the featherweight division, and it will be intriguing to see two elite featherweights go at it for a chance to challenge for the title. Mendes comes into this fight off a sensational TKO victory over Clay Guida, a fighter who has never been finished in his fighting career. This is just a testament to the type of power Mendes has, and his striking certainly is starting to progress with each fight, thanks to Duane Ludwig.
Lentz will be coming into this fight 3-0 in the featherweight division. His latest win was over Hacran Dias, where he was able to showcase his dominate wrestling. He will need this going up against Mendes, who is also a competent wrestler in his own right. Lentz has flown under the radar as of late, but a win over Mendes would cement his status as being an elite fighter, proving he has what it takes to beat the top guys in the division.
It should be a fun scrap with a lot of meaning behind it, which goes down on UFC on Fox 9.
