Chris Leben vs. Uriah Hall Announced; Loser Leaves Town
A UFC middleweight bout was confirmed today between heavy-hitters Chris Leben and Uriah Hall. The loser of this bout may be on the cut list, so they will need to impress in hopes of keeping their job with the UFC.
On paper, this bout has the makings to be a great striking battle. Both are very seasoned when it comes to striking, which is where they will need to keep this fight in hopes of coming out the victor. Oddly enough, both Leben and Hall have a weakness in terms of their wrestling, so it will be interesting to see what tactics they try to employ come fight night.
Leben comes into this bout off a loss to Andrew Craig. In the bout, Craig was able to get enough takedowns to warrant a split decision, leaving Leben on a three-fight losing streak. One more for Leben, and his contract with the UFC may very well be terminated.
Leben has always been known as an exciting fighter. His bouts with Wanderlei Silva and Aaron Simpson are a testament to this. However, when fighters have a solid wrestling game, they are able to stifle Leben. Luckily for Leben, Hall is the type of fighter who should be content to stand and trade, making this bout very intriguing.
Hall also comes into this fight off a disappointing loss to John Howard. On paper, Hall and Howard were expected to stand and trade. However, both fighters seemed content to exchange in a ground battle. Howard ended up doing enough to warrant a split decision. Hall is now on a two-fight losing streak, and the hype, which he received on TUF, doesn’t seem to be warranted.
Hall will be looking to show the doubters wrong with his bout vs. Leben.
