One of the pioneers of the UFC middleweight division, Yushin Okami, has been cut from the UFC. This news was confirmed by UFC officials. This is devastating news for Okami, who is coming off a deflating TKO loss to Ronaldo Souza.

Okami, one of the better middleweights in the UFC, will have to find work elsewhere as a fighter. He has been one of the best fighters to come out of Japan, and this is not the news he was looking to hear. The news is shocking in fact, as Okami is only on a one-fight losing streak. Before losing to Souza, he won three straight bouts, and they were over some top opponents in Hector Lombard, Alan Belcher and Buddy Roberts.

Why the UFC has decided to cut Okami is beyond many fans. He is a big name for the UFC, and is one of the best middleweights in the world when he is on his A game. The UFC is known for cutting fighters even if they are not on a losing streak. Jon Fitch knows this all too well.

Maybe the UFC doesn’t see Okami as being a viable commodity for their company. It will be interesting to see where Okami lands after this cut. One man’s trash is another man’s treasure, and organizations will be looking to take advantage of Okami’s free agency.

Bellator is a great a route he can take, and they are arguably the second best promotion in MMA right now. Also, organizations like One FC or Legacy FC would love to have him under their banner, as he would be a great draw and is a competitive grappler.
