One of the hottest prospects in the heavyweight division, Jared Rosholt, has finally signed a deal with the UFC, and he will be looking to make a splash quickly. Rosholt, brother of former UFC fighter Jake Rosholt, sports an overall record of 8-1.

He has fought for many smaller promotions, but the jump up to the UFC will be a big one, and it will be interesting to see how he handles the bright lights and the pressures of fighting in the octagon. In his fighting tenure, he has been able to adapt his collegiate wrestling quite nicely to MMA, often getting submissions and dominating opponents with his grappling.

The UFC’s heavyweight division has some viable contenders right now, such as Daniel Cormier, Josh Barnett, Fabricio Werdum and now Rosholt. If he is able to build some momentum in the UFC, he will be a stern test for any heavyweight, as most won’t be able to keep up with his relentless wrestling attack.

Currently, Cain Velasquez is set to defend his belt against Junior Dos Santos, and Rosholt has the chance to make waves in the division if he can keep developing as a fighter. It will be interesting to see who the UFC matches him up first for his debut.

Some potential opponents who would be a great litmus test for Rosholt include Shawn Jordan, Todd Duffee and Gabriel Gonzaga. The latter would be a good test for him in terms of the ground battle, and if he can pass that test, he will be ready for top-10 competition.
