It appears Alexander Gustafsson will not changing camps and is going to stay with the Alliance Gym alongside his training partner Phil Davis. Earlier in the week, it was announced that Gustafsson would be moving back to Sweden to train, which left the doors open to a potential rematch with Davis.

However, these rumors were squashed today by Gustafsson’s head coach, Andreas Michael, who denied these claims in an interview with Kimura.se. In the interview, he claimed that the media was just trying to “sell” the news in hopes of creating a story. This is a smart move on Gustafsson’s part as he was actually improving by leaps and bounds with his wrestling, which is a credit to Davis and the staff and Alliance.

Gustafsson is coming off one of the best fights of the year against Jon Jones, a fight that he almost won. A few more tweaks to his game, and he very well could be the next light heavyweight champion. Michael also dismissed the rumors of Gustafsson fighting Davis, unless it was for the title or a life-changing fight in terms of salary.

So for now, everything will be the same for Gustafsson in terms of training, and he has the chance to really make some improvements as a fighter. As far as his next opponent, Gegard Mousasi makes the most since right now. This bout was originally scheduled for Gustafsson, but an injury forced him out of the bout, where Ilir Latifi was able to step up on short notice and fight Mousasi.
