UFC 169: Jon Jones Faces Stern Test In Glover Teixeira
Glover Teixeira has finally been granted his long-awaited title shot against Jon Jones, who recently was able to scrape by and beat Alexander Gustafsson. For Teixeira, this has been a long time coming, and he has been able to stay undefeated inside the UFC, going 5-0 over some tough competition.
It was originally thought that the UFC would go ahead and book a rematch between Jones and Gustafsson, as it was a war and some even felt Gustafsson did enough to earn the belt. However, the UFC decided to give the shot to Glover, and he will be looking to seize this life-changing opportunity.
It was announced by UFC officials that this bout will take place at UFC 169, which will also feature a heavyweight scrap between Frank Mir and Alistair Overeem.
Glover comes into this light heavyweight title bout with an astounding record of 22-2. His latest win was over Ryan Bader, where he was able to defeat him by way of TKO in the first round. It wasn’t a cakewalk, however, as Bader was able to clip Glover before suffering the same fate and getting finished himself.
After the win, Glover didn’t seem too happy with his performance, and he will be looking to shore up some of these deficiencies in his striking defense in hopes of defeating Jones, who has finally shown to be less than perfect inside the octagon.
Jones will need time to recover, but his win over Gustafsson showed his warrior spirit, which was an amazing thing to behold. He will be looking to rack up another win on his resume, which is already flawless. It should be a great championship bout which has the makings to be another war.
