UFC Fight Night 29 featured an important welterweight bout between Dong Hyun Kim and Erick Silva. Both fighters were looking to keep their momentum going in hopes of getting a title shot. From the very beginning, it was apparent that Silva had the striking advantage.
This bout was a back-and-forth war from the very beginning. Silva would land some good shots, and it looked like Kim was wilting, but Kim scored an impressive left, sending Silva out and to the canvas. He followed it up with punches, and the ref was forced to step in. This is one of the most impressive finishes for Kim, and he puts himself in line for a title shot, which is currently being held by Georges St. Pierre.
Many felt that Kim’s best chance of victory was on the ground, grinding Silva out for each round. Jon Fitch was able to do this, and it was the smartest strategy that Kim could have taken. He did just that in the first round, but things were completely shaken up in the second round. Kim would weather the storm of Silva, and landed one of the most shocking punches of his career. Now, Kim is on a three-fight winning streak, and this is the biggest KO win of his career.
For Silva, he will need to revamp his training and come back stronger, especially if he ever wants to compete for the title. It was a great fight from start to finish, which more than likely will win Knockout-Of-The-Night.
