Rousimar Palhares has reportedly been banned from the UFC after his vicious submission win over Mike Pierce. This news comes from the UFC’s Twitter page:
This news comes because Palhares, one of the most brutal leg lock specialists in the UFC, held onto his Pierce’s leg for too long. Even when Pierce tapped and the ref came in to break up the fight, Palhares continued to hold the submission. Pierce seemed to be in agony after the bout, and the UFC has apparently seen enough of this from Palhares.
This isn’t the first time Palhares has committed this crime. He did the same thing with his wins over Mike Massenzio and David Branch. It seems the third time isn’t the charm for Palhares, who will never get to compete inside the octagon again. It’s a shame that this had to happen as Palhares looked great in his new welterweight division.
Now, he will have to find employment elsewhere, and this is certainly devastating news for Palhares and his training camp.
Why Palhares holds onto submissions for too long is beyond many. Is he trying to hurt his opponents even further? Does he have some sort of mental disability, where he sees things slower than normal fighters? These questions have yet to be answered, but the UFC took action rather swiftly, which certainly sets precedence for fighters who continually go against the UFC’s rules.
