Johny Hendricks is set to take on Georges St. Pierre for the welterweight title in a bout which takes place at UFC 167. Hendricks has a lot of tools in his arsenal to beat GSP, and fellow UFC welterweight Carlos Condit believes he has a chance at victory. In an interview with Steph Daniels, Condit shared his thoughts about Hendrick’s chances at beating GSP:

“If Hendricks is able to stop Georges’ takedowns, that’s going to make for a really interesting fight. We might just get to see Georges out of the comfort zone that he’s enjoyed over the last … I don’t know how many title defenses.”

Condit is right in that GSP may be forced out of his comfort zone, as Hendricks will be one of the best wrestlers and heavy-hitters he has ever faced inside the UFC. Also, Hendricks is coming into this championship fight with a lot of momentum and confidence, having strung together six straight wins in one of the most stacked divisions in all of the UFC.

The X-factor in this bout may be Hendrick’s power. He is one of the most powerful punchers in the division, and when he lands flush, his opponents hit the mat quickly. This was the case in his bouts with Jon Fitch, Martin Kampmann, and T.J. Waldburger.

Condit has faced both GSP and Hendricks, so if there is any man to ask who holds the edge, it’s Condit. Regardless of the outcome of UFC 167, it should be a fun main event where we could potentially see a new welterweight champion.
