UFC 166 kicks off this weekend, where welterweights Nate Marquardt and Hector Lombard will go to war. Both have knockout power in their hands, so it could end in dramatic fashion.

Nate comes into this fight with a sense of desperation, as he has lost two straight to Jake Ellenberger and Tarec Saffiedine. Before these two losses, Marquardt looked great, especially in his new weight class, welterweight. He would end up beating Tyron Woodley by way of KO to win the Strikeforce welterweight championship, and he will be looking to get back to his winning ways when he faces Lombard.

Lombard comes into this fight also looking to get an impressive win. His latest victory was over Rousimar Palhares, a victory that showcased his brutal power. It’s this type of power that makes him a feared striker, and he will need to keep the right standing, as this is his best chance of success against Marquardt, who is a pretty competent grappler.

Lombard has shown in the past that he can be beaten if he isn’t able to dictate the striking battle. This was clear in his bouts with Tim Boetsch and Yushin Okami. This will be Lombard’s first fight at welterweight, and he will hope the weight change will give him added strength and power.

Marquardt will be looking to end his career in the UFC, and a win over Lombard secures his job with the UFC. Lombard will be trying to prove he is one of the best strikers in the world. He has a great opportunity to land something big on Marquardt, who has been finished before.
