Daniel Cormier showcased some brilliant skills in his UFC 166 bout with Roy Nelson. In his win, Cormier was able to avoid the power punches from Roy, and he also showcased an arsenal of kicks, which sent Nelson back on several occasions. The performance was impressive, and now Cormier has set himself up for a big fight in the light heavyweight division.

So, who does Cormier fight in the light heavyweight division? His targets were focused on Jon Jones, but Jones is currently set to defend his strap against Glover Teixeira. Two top contenders that would be great for Cormier include Phil Davis and Alexander Gustafsson. Davis is coming off a much-needed win over Lyoto Machida.

Davis is one of the best wrestlers in the division, so it will be interesting to see how Cormier, who is an Olympic caliber wrestler, would handle Davis. Both would present interesting stylistic matches against each other, and the winner would be the next no. 1 contender.

Gustafsson is also a great opponent for Cormier. Gustafsson is the only man to challenge Jones, almost taking his title away from him back at UFC 165. It was one of the best fights ever witnessed inside the octagon, and many even felt that Gustafsson did enough to win the bout. He would present some problems for Cormier on the feet, so it would be a great litmus test for him for his first fight in the light heavyweight division.

Regardless of who Cormier fights next, he’s going to be a formidable opponent to deal with, especially if he continues to develop his striking skills.
