UFC Fight Night 30 featured an important middleweight bout between Lyoto Machida and Mark Munoz. Both were looking to get an impressive win, because if they did, they were more than likely next in line to challenge for the title, where Chris Weidman is currently the champ.

Both fighters were content to feel each other out for the majority of round one. But Machida finally threw a left high kick, knocking out Munoz instantly. This was one of Machida’s biggest wins to date, and the win instantly makes him a title contender in the division. Machida showed a lot of respect toward Munoz after landing the kick. He went in to finish him off, but held back once he saw that Munoz was gone. After the fight, he made sure Munoz was alright, which was a very classy move on Machida’s part.

For Munoz, this is a devastating loss for him, especially since it’s the second time he has been finished by a head kick knockout inside the UFC. Now, he will have to go back to the drawing board and string together quite a few wins before he can ever consider fighting for a title.

For Machida, the move to the middleweight division proved to be brilliant, and he has the striking to take out any fighter in the division. Currently, Weidman is set to defend his belt against Anderson Silva in a highly-anticipated rematch, but Machida seems to be next in line for the title.
