Diego Sanchez put on a thrilling fight with Gilbert Melendez at UFC 166, which featured a back-and-forth war that Sanchez almost won in the third round. This bout was a great fight, and some have even deemed it one of the greatest fights to ever take place under the UFC banner. Sanchez ended up losing a unanimous decision, but he showed a ton of heart and earned a lot of new fans.

So, what’s next for Sanchez? It seems like the lightweight division suits him best, and if he can hang with Melendez, he’s certainly got a lot of fight left in him. A bout with Ben Henderson makes a lot of since right now. Both are coming off losses, so both would get a chance to get a win under their belts in hopes of building some momentum. Also, both fighters have excellent cardio, and it could make for another thrilling fight in the lightweight division.

Another bout that would be great would be Sanchez vs. Nate Diaz. Sanchez has a history with the Diaz brothers since he was able to score a victory over Nate’s brother Nick. This bout would be great both in terms of the trash-talking and the fight itself.

Diaz is coming off a brutal TKO loss to Josh Thomson, and he is more than likely ready to get inside the Octagon again in hopes of getting an important win. Sanchez vs. Diaz would be great both on the ground and standing, making it a viable fight for the UFC to book if both fighters want it.
