A great middleweight bout has been booked between Lyoto Machida and Gegard Mousasi. This bout will take place in Brazil on February 8, and it has the makings to be a great striking war. Both are looking to move up the middleweight rankings in hopes of a title shot, where Chris Weidman is currently the champ.

Machida comes into this pivotal matchup off an impressive KO win over Mark Munoz, his friend and former training partner. In the bout, Machida timed his shots, and then unloaded with a beautiful head kick. It was an impressive middleweight debut for Machida, and one more win under his belt might give him the chance to fight for a title. Machida will be more powerful and stronger at middleweight, and it’s going to be fun to see what type of strategy he takes against Mousasi, who is one of the most experienced fighters under the UFC banner right now.

Mousasi comes into this bout off an impressive victory over Ilir Latifi, where he was able to put on a striking display from start to finish. He is currently on a four-fight winning streak, and sports an impressive record of 34-3-2. He has beat some great fighters in his career, such as Ronaldo SouzaMark HuntDenis Kang and Hector Lombard. A win over Machida would be his biggest win to date, and certainly gets his name in the mix to fight for the belt.

Both of these middleweights are some of the best in the UFC, and it should be a great fight from start to finish.
