One of the most exciting welterweights in the UFC right now has to be Hector Lombard.
For many years, Lombard was a feared striker under the Bellator banner. But after transitioning to the UFC, he had mixed results in the middleweight division. Lethargic performances against Tim Boetsch and Yushin Okami forced him to reconsider his career, and he eventually dropped down to welterweight.
This move turned out to be brilliant as he was able to destroy Nate Marquardt, a former middleweight title challenger, with relative ease. He ended up getting a first-round KO, sending shockwaves throughout the division. Now, it looks like Lombard wants to fight either Martin Kampmann or Carlos Condit for his next match in the welterweight division.
Both of these fights would be great for his career as both Kampmann and Condit love engaging in striking wars, which is what Lombard excels at. Currently, Condit is set to face Matt Brown, a bout that has Knockout of the Night written all over it. So, it seems like a Kampmann bout lines up well, as he is currently without an opponent. Kampmann is coming off a TKO loss to Condit, so he will surely fight with a sense of desperation in his next bout.
This would make the Lombard vs. Kampmann bout all the more entertaining for the fans. If Lombard can defeat one or two more opponents impressively, he is knocking on the door of a title shot in the division, where Georges St. Pierre is currently the champion.
