Bellator 106: Eddie Alvarez Edges Michael Chandler In Fight Of The Year

Tonight, Bellator 106 featured an amazing lightweight title fight between Michael Chandler and Eddie Alvarez. Both were looking to prove who the superior fighter was. Tonight’s fight turned out to be yet another classic. The first round was thrilling.

Both guys landed and Chandler locked up a rear-naked choke, but Eddie escaped. It was a bloody war from start to finish, and there were so many momentum shifts in this bout. Each had their chance at ending the fight with a rear-naked choke. There were ground exchanges, heavy shots standing, and brutal ground and pound displayed by each.

They were both bloodied and cut, but at the end of the day, the judges awarded Alvarez with the split decision. Jimmy Smith, scored the bout 3-2 for Chandler, but it was a razor close fight and could have gone either way. At the end of the day, Alvarez got his lightweight belt back, proving he’s still one of the best fighters in the world. This could possibly be Fight of the Year, and both fighters showed true heart for the duration of the fight.

It’s really hard to call any fighter in this bout a loser. Both put on a thrilling war for the fans, which is something to expect from Alvarez and Chandler at this point in their careers. For Alvarez, he got redemption when he needed it the most, getting his lightweight belt back. For Chandler, this loss will make him a better fighter, and he gets the chance to improve and sharpen his skills even more.
