Bellator 106 kicked off tonight, which featured an epic light heavyweight bout between King Mo Lawal and Emanuel Newton. Coming into this bout, Newton proved to be the better man in his first bout with Lawal, knocking him out with a spinning backfist. Tonight, however, it was a more methodical fight from both men.

Mo scored a takedown early, but Newton would get back to his feet. In each round, Newton would land flashy kicks to the body, landing more punches as well.  He outpointed Mo the entire fight, and ended up winning a unanimous decision. Newton executed his game plan to perfection in the fight, keeping the fight in the center of the ring for as long as possible. He was able to get back to his feet when he was taken down, and Mo never really got a chance to execute his own strategy in the fight.

Now, Newton is the interim light heavyweight champion, and is set to face Attila Vegh, who is the current light heavyweight champion. That is going to be a spectacular fight, which could end violently. Tonight, Newton was able to back up all of the talk he had with Mo, and it’s yet another huge win under his belt.

The win brings his record to 22-7-1. He proved tonight that he was the superior fighter over King Mo, and it’s going to be fun to see him unify the titles with Vegh. Congrats to Newton on the impressive striking display; he looked crisp from start to finish.

Dana White Doesn’t Think Conor McGregor Can Beat Rafael dos Anjos

Things are getting interesting ahead of UFC 196. The headlining fight at that March 5 pay-per-view event will see UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor move up to lightweight to face the champion of that division Rafael dos Anjos. If McGregor succeeds he will become the first UFC fighter to hold belts in two different divisions simultaneously. The oddsmakers have McGregor as the favorite ahead of the fight. UFC president Dana White doesn’t necessarily hold the same opinion.

Dr. AnnMaria De Mars is the first woman ever to win a gold medal at the World Judo Championship doing so in 1984. She is also the mother of former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey. Further she may be the most vocal critic of Rousey’s coach Edmond Tarverdyan. Appearing on Submission Radio De Mars once again spoke out on Tarverdyan commenting on Rousey’s loss to Holly Holm at UFC 193. “I predicted it in advance Ronda trained with an idiot and a fraud” said De Mars.
