Well, it’s official. UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez will defend his belt against Fabricio Werdum. This news comes from Milenio, which reported that the bout is going to take place in Mexico City at UFC 172. Both of these heavyweights are elite, and they will be looking to prove who the superior heavyweight is come fight time.

Velasquez is coming off a destruction over Junior Dos Santos. For five straight rounds, Cain was able to land shots to JDS while he was up against the cage. Finally, he ended up getting the TKO in the fifth round, proving that he is the best heavyweight, and perhaps the best fighter in the UFC.

Now, he faces a new challenge in Werdum who will certainly present some interesting challenges, particularly on the ground.

Werdum is coming off a victory over Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, where he was able to lock up an impressive armbar. It was a huge feather in his cap as Nogueira is widely considered one of the best jiu-jitsu practitioners in all of MMA. Werdum is currently on a three-fight winning streak, and not only is he lethal on the ground, his stand up, and namely his muay thai, has come a long way since leaving the UFC back in 2008.

Both fighters are the best of the best in the heavyweight division, and this should be an epic heavyweight bout that could end violently rather quickly. It all goes down at UFC 172, which is shaping up to be an excellent card for the fans.
