Rory MacDonald and Robbie Lawler are gearing up to face each other this weekend at UFC 167. Both fighters are looking for a statement win, and if they can finish in impressive fashion, they are more than likely going to fight for the belt.
MacDonald has been an elite fighter ever since he burst onto the UFC scene. With wins over Che Mills, B.J. Penn and Jake Ellenberger, it’s only a matter of time before he gets a title shot. He’s already considered the no. 2 welterweight in the division, and with a win over Lawler, it would be hard not to give him the next shot. MacDonald has the athleticism, the skill and the right mentality to be a champion — he just needs to execute a couple more times to get the belt.
Lawler will be looking to spoil MacDonald’s championship aspirations, and he certainly has a great shot because he is one of the most powerful knockout artists in the UFC. In his last couple of performances, Lawler has been able to stop Josh Koscheck and Bobby Voelker.
Lawler’s takedown defense seems to have improved since coming back to the UFC, and he will need this defense against MacDonald. Lawler also seems to have the right mindset in his fights, and it’s going to be interesting to see if he can connect with MacDonald’s chin in hopes of getting a title shot of his own.
Both are looking to prove that they are the superior fighter, but one things for sure — it’s going to be a war from start to finish. So, who will come out the victor come fight night? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section below.
