Vitor Belfort Deserves A Title Shot After Dan Henderson Victory
If Chael Sonnen and Nick Diaz deserve title shots after losing to Anderson Silva and Carlos Condit, respectively, then Vitor Belfort deserves a UFC middleweight title shot after winning his past three fights. Belfort defeated Dan Henderson is stunning fashion on Saturday. It was the third time in three fights that a head kick has set up a victory for the Brazilian.
Belfort looks like a totally different fighter since he fought Silva for the middleweight strap. He has beaten Luke Rockhold, Michael Bisping and now Henderson by KO. That screams title shot. There is no middleweight left to challenge the winner of Silva/Chris Weidman.
Now in his mid-30s, Belfort looks like a fighter reborn. His explosiveness is what makes him such a good fighter. Against Henderson, he snapped in the blink of an eye and took Henderson out. He could do the same to anyone in the middleweight or light heavyweight division. Unfortunately, he has already had a shot recently at light heavyweight, so middleweight is his division.
Since making his way back to the UFC in 2009, Belfort has only lost twice — to Jon Jones and Silva. It should also be noted that Belfort has won each of his fights in the first round with one coming by way of submission and the rest by KO/TKO.
The only thing that could/should warrant Belfort waiting for his shot is a Silva victory, which will most likely result in a trilogy fight. That would be bad luck for Belfort because he would most likely be forced to take another fight, which would most likely be against Ronaldo Souza in a title-eliminator.
