Boxing: Manny Pacquiao vs. Brandon Rios Preview

Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

Manny Pacquiao is set to face Brandon Rios this weekend, which should be a very exciting boxing match as both fighters have knockout power in their hands, and they both fight with a very aggressive style. It all goes down Saturday night at the Venetian Macao in Macau, China. Up for grabs is the WBO International Welterweight title.

A win would be huge for either fighter and would certainly reestablish their brand in boxing. Coming into this bout, Pacquiao sports an overall record of 54-5-2. This is the first time he has ever been on a two-fight losing streak, so he will be fighting with a sense of desperation against Rios.

The opponents he lost to most recently were against Timothy Bradley via a split decision (thanks to some atrocious judging) and Juan Manuel Marquez, where Manny got knocked out in brutal fashion while pressing forward. Manny will look to be a more technical, powerful fighter when he squares off against Rios, making this an exciting bout for boxing fans. Rios comes into this bout sporting a record of 31-1-1, and he has over 23 KOs on his record.

Manny will be Rios’ biggest test to date, and it’s going to be interesting to see how he comes into this fight. Rios is an aggressive fighter like Manny, and it will be interesting to see who edges each other come fight night. The winner furthers their boxing career for bigger fights, and the loser takes a serious hit in the welterweight rankings. So, who will come out the victor on Saturday night, Pacquiao or Rios?
