An exciting fighter in the UFC‘s heavyweight division is Daniel Cormier. He has shown to be an elite fighter, beating quality opponents in Josh Barnett, Frank Mir and Antonio Silva. He’s had so much success at heavyweight, that’s he actually the No. 2 ranked guy in the division.

However, despite having so much success at heavyweight, he’s going to transition down to light heavyweight, in part because his training part and friend, Cain Velasquez, is the current heavyweight champ of the UFC. Cormier has already made it clear that he wants to fight Jon Jones, as they have had a history of conflict with each other.

But, seeing that Jones is already scheduled to face Glover Teixeira, this bout is not happening soon. So, who’s left for Cormier? That man may be Rashad Evans, who is coming off a destruction over Chael Sonnen. An Evans vs. Cormier potential bout was revealed by UFC Tonight’s Twitter page:

Rashad says he’s heard that his next opponent could be @dc_mma! What do you think about that matchup?

This is an excellent fight for Cormier, because Evans will be a great litmus test for him at light heavyweight. If he can win, he’s more than likely going to get a title shot, whether that’s against Jones or Teixeira. Evans has long been considered one of the best wrestlers in MMA, and so has Cormier, who is an Olympic caliber of athlete. It would be a good ground battle for sure, and fans would see an exciting light heavyweight scrap. So, who would you favor in a Cormier vs. Evans bout?
