The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) season 18, has turned out to be a great idea. The fights have really shown off the evolution of woman’s mixed martial arts, and put the two coaches, Miesha Tate and Ronda Rousey, in the spotlight.
Since we are talking about mixed martial arts, we cannot forget the golden rule — what can go wrong, will go wrong. I am not saying that this season of TUF is going wrong, I am just saying that no one really knew who Rousey was before the show, and that is a bad thing. I am not talking about popularity wise either, I am talking about personally. We did not know who she was as a person, and it is shocking a lot of people.
Dana White would always say that Rousey is extremely competitive, and boy, did he understate that. She is downright vicious on TUF. She is hard, mean and angry, which is exactly what a fighter should be, but we will get to that later. She is also seems to hate Tate, which has culminated with her flipping off fiasco when she won the coaches challenge. Most fans were not prepared to see this, especially since she is the champion. It seems that with Rousey getting in on TUF, she has lost more fans than she has gained. Tate, on the other hand, has seemed to flourish in her new role and has attracted many new fans due to her relaxed and nice state that she is constantly in.
Were the episodes edited in a way to paint Rousey in some corners? Possibly, but it is not all bad for Rousey, because the fans are talking. For good or bad, the fans cannot stop talking about her, and in the fight game, that is always a good thing.
