UFC: Explosive Welterweight Prospect Adlan Amagov To Face Jason High At Fight Night 35

Adlan Amagov

Andrew Richardson USA TODAY Sports

Two welterweights who’ve been on an impressive run of late will square off at UFC Fight Night 35 in Duluth, Georgia. Explosive Chechen fighter Adlan Amagov will tangle with veteran Jason High on January 15. Amagov has been a dominant force since joining the UFC, recording victories in both appearances. He registered a lopsided decision win over Chris Spang in his Octagon debut and most recently brutalized T.J. Waldburger in one round at UFC 166.

Amagov is a creative and punishing striker who has won his last three fights since suffering a loss at middleweight to Robbie Lawler dating back to their days in Strikeforce. Like Lawler, Amagov’s decision to make the cut to 170 pounds has produced positive results, and he will be hoping to continue his success against High.

“The Wolf” has an impressive 13-2 record with eight victories by way of knockout. His explosive finishing ability has him an up-and-comer to watch in the division.

For his part, High is trying to make the most of his second stint with the promotion. He’s been able to record back-to-back wins after being submitted by talented prospect Erick Silva. The standout wrestler is fresh off a decision victory over Anthony Lapsley at UFC 167. That fight was a good follow-up to his first-round submission win over James Head at Fight Night 27.

High would definitely be best served to try and avoid a striking contest with his hard-hitting opponent, and instead look to rely on his jiu-jitsu game. High has registered eight submission victories during a well-traveled career that has also seen him fight in Strikeforce, Affliction and Dream. He’s an impressive 9-1 in his last 10 fights.

It shapes up to be a solid matchup between two competitors who will be looking to build upon their recent success with the promotion. The fight has the makings to be an entertaining one.

Dana White Doesn’t Think Conor McGregor Can Beat Rafael dos Anjos

Things are getting interesting ahead of UFC 196. The headlining fight at that March 5 pay-per-view event will see UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor move up to lightweight to face the champion of that division Rafael dos Anjos. If McGregor succeeds he will become the first UFC fighter to hold belts in two different divisions simultaneously. The oddsmakers have McGregor as the favorite ahead of the fight. UFC president Dana White doesn’t necessarily hold the same opinion.
