One of the most exciting fighters in the welterweight division over the years has been Thiago Alves. Alves is known for his brutal leg kicks and dominate grappling. He’s been out of action due to lingering injuries, which were suffered during training camp. But it looks like he’s finally healed, and he is ready to make his mark in the UFC in 2014.
According to UFC Tonight, it was reported that Alves is 100 percent healthy and that he wants to fight on the March 15 card, which is in Dallas, Texas. This is great news for Alves, as he will finally get to compete inside the cage and prove that he still has what it takes to compete with the best of them.
His last performance inside the cage was against Martin Kampmann, which he lost by way of guillotine. That was two years ago, so it’s been a long time since he’s fought. When any fighter has such a long stretch of time between active competition, the question is always there: will there be any ring rust? Alves believes there won’t be, and it’s going to be interesting to see how he fares against the elite in the division now.
An opponent has yet to be named for Alves, but a great fight for him would be against either Nick Diaz or Brian Ebersole. Both are coming of losses, so they make a lot of sense for Alves in terms of wins and losses. Also, Diaz and Ebersole both have exciting fight styles, which is exactly what Alves has. They would be exciting welterweight fights for the fans.
Whoever Alves faces, it’s good to see him healthy, and it’s going to be fun to see him get back inside the UFC in hopes of furthering his career.
