UFC on Fox 9 takes place this next weekend, and will showcase an exciting lightweight bout between Danny Castillo and Edson Barboza. Both have finishing abilities both on the feet and on the ground, so it’s an exciting one for the fans. Also, both have the chance to move up the lightweight rankings in hopes of making some waves in the division.
Castillo comes into this fight on a two-fight winning streak over Paul Sass and Tim Means. In both fights, Castillo showed some great control from the top, proving he’s got some great wrestlers skills and strength. Castillo trains out of the Team Alpha Male gym alongside great fighters such as Urijah Faber, Chad Mendes and Joseph Benavidez. He’s got a great group of guys around him, and with the recent addition of Duane Ludwig, his striking should be on point against Barboza.
Barboza comes into this fight also on a two-fight winning streak against Lucas Martins and Rafaello Oliveira. Both wins were finishes, one by TKO and the another by submission. Barboza has been one of the best strikers in the lightweight division for some time now. His highlight-reel kick over Terry Etim will be remembered forever, and it proves just how dynamic Barboza can be on the feet.
He’s also got some brutal kicks which he will surely try to land on Castillo when they square off next week on Fox. It should be a great lightweight bout where the winner gets a huge win under their belt and moves up the rankings.
