UFC 168: Vitor Belfort Fights Winner Of Chris Weidman vs. Anderson Silva
One of the most highly anticipated bouts in the UFC takes place on December 28, 2013 between Chris Weidman and Anderson Silva. Weidman will be looking to defend his belt for the first time where he knocked out Silva in their first meeting with each other. And now it seems like Vitor Belfort gets the shot at the winner.
This news was confirmed by Dana White to Fox Sports. This is huge news for Belfort, who will finally get a chance to fight for the middleweight belt again. He came up short in his first attempt, getting front kicked by Silva in one of the most amazing knockouts ever to occur in MMA.
Belfort has turned his career around as of late, having won three straight fights in a row. His wins over Luke Rockhold, Michael Bisping and Dan Henderson all ended with finishes, showing his improving abilities as a striker. It’s clear he has the techniques now to threaten any elite fighter, and he will finally get the chance to become a champion in the UFC.
First things first as Weidman and Silva will have to square off for a second time. This middleweight championship will be interesting in many regards. Will Silva clown Weidman like he did in the first fight, which ultimately led to his demise, or will we see a more calculated, devastating striker, much like we saw when he faced Belfort? Questions will be answered at UFC 168, and Belfort will surely be watching the bout with a keen interest of the result.
