Bobby Green has definitely made some positive strides in the UFC‘s lightweight division thanks to two victories in the last two months. After a controversial win against James Krause last month at Fight for the Troops 3 in Kentucky, Green made the quick turnaround as an injury replacement at UFC on FOX 9 and posted a unanimous decision win over rugged veteran Pat Healy.
Green got the call against “Bam Bam” after Jamie Varner was forced off the card after sustaining a torn rotator cuff during training. “King” showcased his speed advantage and athleticism in the striking department by landing crisp punches and combinations throughout the course of the fight, but had to withstand the ultimate grinder in Healy.
Healy absorbed the punishment thanks to his iron chin and was able to land some punches and takedowns of his own. The veteran has made a career of eating punches, with the trade-off of wearing out his opposition as the fight gets deeper.
Both fighters showed the battle scars at the end of the entertaining three-round affair as both men were bloodied. Green got the unanimous verdict by scores of 30-27, 30-27 and 29-28. The former Strikeforce veteran is now 3-0 inside the Octagon and passed his stiffest test in solid fashion. He’s now won his last seven fights.
Green is clearly line for a possible top-10 opponent next in a stacked 155-pound division. He’s also in line for some well-deserved rest and relaxation after a hectic schedule. As for Healy, it was his second-straight defeat and despite the grit and determination he showed, it has to be considered a serious career setback. He’s 0-2-1 in his second stint with the organization.
