A great UFC lightweight bout takes place at UFC 168 between Michael Johnson and Gleison Tibau. Both of these fighters have a chance to make a statement, and the winner moves right up there with the best in the division.

Coming into this exciting lightweight bout, Johnson is riding high off a sterling performance over Joe Lauzon. It was a much-needed win as he was on a two-fight losing streak and in jeopardy of losing his job with the UFC prior. In his bout with Lauzon, Johnson showed amazing stand up skills, peppering Lauzon with a stiff jab throughout the fight.

He also showcased some great wrestling skills, and it appears that his time training with the Blackzillians camp is paying off. A win over Tibau would be huge for his career, so he will have extra motivation coming into this fight.

Tibau also comes into this fight riding some momentum. He has won two straight over quality opponents such as John Cholish and Jamie Varner. Tibau is one of the biggest lightweights in the history of the UFC. In fact, he could probably fight in the middleweight division if he wanted to. Sometimes, however, this size advantage hasn’t paid off as he has had some cardio issues going into the third round.

Tibau will be hoping his fight with Johnson doesn’t get out of the first round, whether he finishes on the feet or on the ground. Both fighters are among the best in the lightweight division, and it should be a great scrap between two well-rounded fighters in the UFC.
