A great welterweight bout has been booked between Carlos Condit and Tyron Woodley; this news was confirmed today via UFC United Kingdom‘s Twitter page. This is huge news for both fighters, who will square off at UFC 171, which also features a welterweight championship between Johny Hendricks and Robbie Lawler.
Condit comes into this fight off a sensational performance against Martin Kampmann. Condit showed some dynamic strikes, and he was able to pull out the TKO finish in the fourth round. It was a much-needed win, as Condit was on a two-fight losing streak, getting defeated by Hendricks and Georges St. Pierre. Now, Condit has the chance to fight for the belt again if he can get past Woodley, which will be no easy task.
Woodley comes into this fight off one of his best wins, a knockout win over Josh Koscheck. Woodley proved to be the better man in this bout, showcasing his brutal power and athleticism. Woodley has always been an explosive striker, and it seems like he is putting everything together after his deflating loss to Jake Shields. He will be looking to prove that he has the skills to compete with the elite in the division, which is what Condit has been for years now.
Both of these fighters have finishing abilities on the feet, and it’s going to be interesting to see who can gain the edge in the fight in hopes of claiming a No. 1 contender spot in the division. Much is on the line in this fight, and it’s going to be a fantastic welterweight bout, which takes place in Dallas, TX on March 15, 2013.
