A UFC welterweight fight is in the works between Kevin Gastelum and Rick Story. Both are coming off wins, so their fight makes all the more sense, and if the winner can end the bout in a decisive way, they can make a statement in the division. This news was confirmed from NBC Sports Radio, and will take place at UFC 171.

Story comes into this match off a great win over Brian Ebersole. In the bout, Story showed to be the superior striker, and it seemed like he has polished up his striking game. It also doesn’t hurt when you train with one of the greatest fighters in the world, Georges St. Pierre, during training camp. Story has always been a very good welterweight, but he’s always come up short in bouts that would give him a chance to make a statement as a viable contender for the belt. He will be looking to change this against Gastelum

Gastelum was TUF season 17 winner, and he’s looked great thus far in his UFC tenure. So far in the UFC, he has been able to win two straight over Uriah Hall and Brian Melancon. He’s undefeated in his career, and he takes a serious step up in competition going up against Story. Gastelum is a very good wrestler, who has looked great since dropping down to welterweight. He will look to continue his dreams of becoming a champion when he fights Story.

Both fighters have a chance to make a statement in a division that is currently without a champion right now. A lot is on the line, so both fighters will be fighting with a sense of urgency.
