Josh Barnett and Travis Browne are set to do battle this weekend at UFC 168, and they are looking to get an impressive win. The winner may very well be next in line to challenge Cain Velasquez, the current heavyweight champion of the world. Barnett and Browne both picked up impressive first-round finishes in their last UFC outing, so it’s going to be a thrilling fight from start to finish.
Barnett is a very savvy wrestler with great submission skills. When he gets on top of you, it’s very hard to escape. He also throws good shots on the bottom to open up submissions. Not only that, but he has powerful hands, particularly when he’s got fighters against the cage in the clinch position. He will look to implement a similar strategy going against Browne.
Browne is a very athletic heavyweight. He’s got some great kicks, and he’s very fluid when he’s on his feet. He’s also got some great wrestling skills, and has been known to take a punch. This was clear in his bout with Alistair Overeem. Browne really just needs one more signature win against a top guy, and he has this chance going up against Barnett.
Final Prediction: Browne will show early signs of success on the feet, but he simply will not be able to deal with Barnett on the ground. Barnett will pressure Browne’s backyard until he gets a takedown. From there, he will unload a lot of punches until Browne gives up a submission, probably an arm triangle on the bottom.
Josh Barnett wins via submission (arm triangle) in the first round
