UFC Fight Night comes to Singapore this weekend, which features a welterweight bout between Tarec Saffiedine and Hyun Gyu Lim. Both of these fighters are looking to make a statement, and a win would be huge for their careers in terms of welterweight rankings.

Coming into this main event, Saffiedine has been red hot, winning four straight over the likes of Roger Bowling and Nate Marquardt. Saffiedine is the last ever welterweight champion under the Strikeforce banner, where he defeated Marquardt utilizing a brilliant strategy, throwing kick after kick that battered Marquardt’s legs for five-straight rounds. Saffiedine has always been a very cerebral fighter, and his takedown defense, credit to Team Quest, has never looked better. He faces a stern test in Lim, but if he gets past him, he moves up the rankings and is a viable contender.

Lim will be looking to play spoiler, and a win over Saffiedine would be his biggest to date. Thus far in his fighting career, Lim has been able to amass a record of 12-3-1. He’s currently on a seven-fight winning streak, and he’s taken the UFC’s welterweight division by storm, knocking out his last two opponents in relatively quick fashion. He’s got power in both hands, and his grappling is also very good. His best path to victory against Saffiedine will be to land hard shots and end the fight as quickly as possible.

It should be a fantastic welterweight match, which, again, takes place in Singapore this weekend. The winner puts their name in the mix with the best of them in the welterweight division, which is currently up for the taking, ever since Georges St. Pierre gave up his title.
