UFC Fight Night took place today in Singapore, featuring an exciting bantamweight fight between Dustin Kimura and Jon Delos Reyes. Both fighters brought the fight to each other, but it was Kimura who was able to come out on top, getting an armbar inside the first round.
The win was huge for Kimura, who brings his overall record to 11-1. Kimura has only lost once in his career, and he’s proving to be a viable contender in the bantamweight division. Kimura has always been an exciting bantamweight, but he seems to be a lot more polished and technical. This was clear tonight, and his ground game is still very lethal. He was able to dominate Reyes in every area today on the ground.
Almost all of his wins are by way of submission, so if he can get the fight to the ground, he’s more than likely going to sink in a submission. It was a much-needed win for Kimura because he was coming off a deflating submission loss to Mitch Gagnon. For Reyes, he will need to regroup and work on his submission defense after this hard-fought loss.
If Kimura can keep improving, particularly with his standup, he will be fighting for a title in relatively quick fashion. The bantamweight division is currently being dominated by Dominick Cruz and Renan Barao, who will settle the score and unify the titles at UFC 169. A couple more wins for Kimura, and he could find himself in that title picture.
