Well, the injury bug has bitten Dominick Cruz, once again, as it was reported today from Dana White that Cruz has torn his groin. Cruz was set to unify his bantamweight title against Renan Barao, who has been looking unstoppable as of late. But White appeared on ESPN to tell media that Cruz has pulled out of the bout.
Now, Urijah Faber gets the chance to fill in for the injured Cruz, and he’s hoping to make the most out of this opportunity. Cruz is now forced to forfeit his bantamweight title, and it’s a shame because Cruz was hoping to prove everyone wrong and showcase some amazing skills when he squared off with Barao.
He will have to rehab this injury again and dedicate himself to getting healthy. Cruz has had some bad luck before this recent injury, tearing his ACL twice. It’s a shame to see such a dominate champion get injured so many times. He’s one of the most fluid, accurate strikers in the UFC, and his takedowns are top notch.
But this recent injury takes him out of the main event for UFC 169. Faber gets the chance to fight Barao again, and he’s hoping to prove he has made the right adjustments since their first meeting. Faber ended up losing a decision to Barao the first time, and it didn’t help that Faber broke his hand in the bout within the first few rounds. A Barao vs. Faber fight should still sell well in terms of pay per views, and hopefully Cruz can make a full recovery; it seems like he just can’t catch a break.
